RISK ASSESSMENT

Security situation in Ireland

Ireland’s enduring democratic traditions were underscored in the November 2024 elections, which reaffirmed Fianna Fáil’s status as the largest party. Governed by a stable multi-party parliamentary system and a committed member of the European Union, Ireland continues to tackle key challenges—including housing, healthcare, and economic stability—through ongoing coalition talks. While its longstanding policy of neutrality and active participation in UN peacekeeping missions contribute to a low risk of external conflict, minor cross-border sensitivities persist near Northern Ireland, reflecting echoes of historical sectarian divisions.

Risks across political stability, conflict, natural hazards, public health, and local travel remain negligible. The threat of terrorism is minimal, with any potential incidents largely linked to residual historical tensions that have significantly subsided since the Good Friday Agreement. Public demonstrations and strikes, especially in Dublin, are typically orderly, with law enforcement effectively managing any disruptions. Overall, residents and visitors alike benefit from Ireland’s secure and well-regulated environment.
